Week one of our creating through play campaign and I decided to go back to and completely re-vamp an old short story idea to explore a more sci-fi style of story.
Typically I like to write longer pieces in fantasy and romance; I'm getting there I swear! But, in honour of this launch and stepping out of my realm of comfort I wanted to revisit this idea of that sprung from the fact that a group of crows is called a murder. I thought the naming of the groups was rather sinister; so named because of the belief in crows as a bad omen, in fact, as an omen of death in days gone by. I wanted to claim the title for them in a powerful way and transfer it to a group in a futuristic setting.
No need to go on here, I'll let you read it for yourselves! It's only the first two pages, and really more info dumping than story weaving, but that's the point! I just started writing everything down, trying to find the voice of the character, feeling my way into the world. Let me know what you think, if you want to, otherwise I hope you enjoy or have a good laugh and use it to encourage you to create whatever it is that you have an inkling of an idea for.
You're right there's a lot of world building, but you've also opened up enough questions and left them unanswered to make a reader REALLY wish you hadn't stopped there. Ya know? You made a scary, I don't know if I should root for her or be terrified of her main character, too, which is also a good way to get readers invested.
